I enjoyed The Code Switch; and will recommend it to my friends and family. What a wonderful story between to girls that never stopped being friends no matter what life pitched at them. This goes to show you a bond between two individuals is as strong or stronger than life itself. They enjoyed and shared some of the same qualities at school. Speech was one of the most powerful qualities and lesson in the entire story.Great job Yvetta and Ramona. Hope to read more publications by you guys! Keep up the good work and positive influences you bestow upon us.

The Code Switch can be used with adult students learning English as a second language. Main characters, Keisha and Lavender, bring to life the situations and examples of using both Standard English and slang. Code switching is the ability to alternate between one or more languages or dialects. English learners can be reflective of the challenges they experience in their own language acquisition journey by reading about, and relating to, Keisha and Lavender. This chapter book can validate the struggles and rewards of the emerging use of words. It does so in a descriptive, action-filled, fun-to-read manner.

Format: Paperback|Language is essential to communication, and understanding who we are in our cultural heritage and geographic environment contributes to our language. The Code Switch highlights different styles of tween language, and gives a thoughtful view to interactions of middle school students.

Code switching: the ability to alternate between one or more languages or dialects. The title snuck up on me. In a good way.
Keisha and Lavender, two BFFs (best friends forever), have the second F tested when they are put into competition with each other. As an aspiring writer, I like conflict. And I love their conversations for the playful phonetic spelling. Keisha often speaks slangy colloquial English, written phonetically in italics for the reader to easily see. Then Keisha's BFF Lavender often makes gentle corrections (in bold) in the very next paragraph. It was like Keisha and Lavender took turns speaking in each ear. I have often written phonetically in my stories (I am influenced by Al Capp), so I admire when this is done well.
There is a little Standard English Glossary at the end of the book which is like icing on the phonetic cake. If you admire wordplay, get this book.

Deleting Files Reviews
By Nancy Laronda Johnson on January 3, 2019
Format: Paperback|
Inspired by true events, Deleting Files is a book of fiction covering very important messages of which everyone needs to be aware. Family members affecting a blind eye to rape and incest can cause even more devastation to the victim and family.
Dina, a middle school student has a secret she desperately wants discovered. Her home is a lie of sexual, emotional and alcoholic abuse, which already caused the death of Dina’s older brother.
The author, Franklin, tells the story of Dina in an innovative fashion. From what one could call “caring gossip,” two old Christian lady friends open the door for Dina’s courage to blossom, shining the light of truth on her darkened home life. Both of these friends have secrets of their own, which only Dina’s courage causes them to reveal and get their own healing.
A worthy story and read that can cleanse the wounds caused by human disgrace.

This was an amazing read. I could not put the book down until the very last word was read! The writer writes in such a way that you are drawn into the story as if you were one of the characters. It is written in a language very easy to understand, and makes it very easy to identify with the story. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

I could feel the author's love for children while reading Deleting Files. I became teary-eyed, just reading the introduction. You must read this book and educate yourselves on recognizing the subtle (and not-so-subtle) signs that children demonstrate when things are going wrong in their lives. All children deserve a happy, safe life. Too many do not have this. In the Epilogue you will learn what happens to the main characters in the story. Not everyone lives happily-ever-after. This is a book with pages of good information for the reader, but the story unfolds so you have feelings for what is happening to this young girl. I was pleased to see that the author had lists of What To Do, What Not To Do, Important Contacts and National Hotlines. Thank you, Yvetta Doll Franklin for writing this important book.

Ms. Franklin's book shines the light on a timely subject that is often kept in the dark-child molestation by family and "friends".This book reminds us that we must be more aware of our children, especially when we notice unexplained changes in their behaviors or demeanor.
We all have 'files' that we would like to delete, yet it is by examining these 'files' Ms. Franklin reminds us, that we can heal ourselves and help each other heal. A great read.

SWITCH-A-ROO: WHO ARE YOU REVIEWS
By BB on October 31, 2019
Format: Paperback
This book reminds the reader that it is still very harmful to judge others without knowing all of the facts. Being yourself is much better than being someone else. In life, we must learn to see in the inner person and focus less on the outer person. Being kind to others still goes a long way in life. The author, Mrs. Franklin, teaches adults and children that you are only as disabled as you choose to be; and people have the power to disable you more than you actually are! In summary, always treat people with kindness, stop and put yourself in someone's shoes, and remember the golden rule, "treat people how you want to be treated."

This is an excellent book we can all learn alot from this book. Be yourself you don't have to pretend to be something that you're not just to impress someone else because the sad part is when the walls starts tumbling down the real person shows up and guess what you don't look to good anymore and you look like a fool. Just be who God intended you to me without all the extra stuff. If someone cares about you they want to care about the real person not a fake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your middle school age children will love this book
By Jonathan M. Wynneon March 2, 2018

Your middle school age children will love this book. I've already loaned my autographed copy to an 8th grader who is having peer relationship challenges. This book, I am sure, will give her the insight she needs to make better school relationship choices. I can't wait to read her other titles.

I read this book Switch -A-Roo thinking I would be entertained just by the title. Instead I was deeply touched reading about children with disabilities and how they feel and desire the same things as able bodied kids. I fell in love with two characters the most because they had the heaviest burdens. Every teenager should read this book. It's not so important to fit in as it is to be proud of who you are!
